I think Karlach, Shadowheart and Lae'zel each have their appeal.

Lae'zel perhaps has the most interesting journey of the two, but Karlachs Romance is the cutest imo.

I agree with that. Shadowheart is more grounded, Karlach is like-minded and Lae'zel is the tougher type. They are like completely opposite for each others. I would say that for other characters in the game they are unique for their own too.

She's awesome.
But on my 2nd playthrough i was fond of Laezel more.
Minthara is also good, Shadowheart is good.
Actually all of them are good.

First playthrough i found Astarion a bit annoying, but 2nd and 3rd he grew on me as well, and when i started to pay attention to his performance i was impressed, what an great performance by Newborn.

I also think Gale is kind of underrated, he gets a lot of hate just because people accidently fall in romance with him, but as a character i found him pretty good too.

Gale is actually a great character, I agree. His problem is that he is a prodigy, and a prodigy always comes across as unlikable at first glance.
