-Left For Dead 2 Short Review-

Left for dead 2 is perfection found in simplicity. The game couldn't be more direct or simple, but it is so polished and refined that it ends up being an addictive experience that is a pleasure to play.

The core game mechanics drink from classic shooters to offer tense gameplay based around speed and constant action in which enemy waves don't stop coming. At the same time, this classic-like action finds itself in a co-op frame with mechanics, levels, and enemies that force the group to cooperate to survive. The mix of frenetic action and cooperative elements create a battlefield that, while easy to understand and simple, is in constant change, chaos and movement.

In terms of enemy design, even though there's not much variety, the ones that are in the game are very different from each other and they force the players to constantly adopt different strategies depending on enemy type, the zone where they found the enemy and the combination of different enemy types.

Level design is also excellent. The levels are huge and they give some level of freedom to the player, but at the same time, they are highly intuitive to navigate. Also, there is a lot of variety and all campaigns present a different progression of the levels or obstacles that make each campaign feel unique.

On the technical side, the game has aged very well and the lighting in particular is amazing. That lighting combined with an incredible sound design creates an atmosphere worthy of an apocalypse like the one that is presented in the game. The allied IA must be mentioned as well since it’s one of the best ones that I have ever seen in a co-op game.

As for negatives, some campaigns are worse in terms of design than others and end up being bland (crash course...). Also, some specific areas in some levels seem to be designed with the main goal of annoying the player because of their insane difficulty, or even on some occasions having some insta-death moments without prior warning (for example in some areas in swamp fever the charger can throw you into the river and kill you in a single charge).

But besides those small negative points, Left for dead 2 is an excellent game. It’s a game that does not have anything to spare or lacks anything, a piece that knows its priorities and executes them without fat to offer high caliber cooperative action in the most polished and refined way possible.

-FINAL SCORE: 9,5

I completed all the levels of every campaign on normal difficulty and I played several games of each one of the secondary game modes (survival, versus, etc.). I played this game for 26,7 hours.
