To start with, I was very hyped when I got my hands on the Console Version of this game. I’m not owning a high end PC, so my only chance was to wait for the PS5 version. I’m a huge Syberia fan from day one, the first game is in my Top 5 best games of all time. So I was hoping for another new beautiful adventure.

During my first steps of the story, almost everything felt great and I was so ready for more. After playing Syberia 3, which was actually boring and unpleasant to play, I had positive expectations about this one, this release felt more professionaI. I really had to get used to have interaction with new characters, like Katyusha and Dana Roze. But in the beginning it couldn’t annoy me because it’s a new Syberia. After playing some hours, the first bad thing that I also couldn’t get used to was the lack of the frame rate. This PS5 version runs on a max of 30 fps, this was very disappointing to me. These consoles should run it easily on a steady 60 fps nowadays.

So over to the story. I was very surprised about the authenticity of how the story felt in the beginning. Arriving at the hotel gave me goosebumps and nostalgia feelings of Valadilene. Benoît Sokal did a very great job on this. During the stay at the hotel, the tasks felt very amusing to me. During my playtime the hours was passing by very quickly.

Until a bit further in the game when I had to play with Dana Roze. I mean, in the beginning I had to give it a chance and I didn’t judged about her role, so it was a fresh change that Microids did. The concert that she had to do was nice and typically Syberia.

But to be honest, when I reached about 50% of the game I scratched my head thinking why am I so busy playing with Dana. This whole franchise is about Kate Walker traveling by train searching for Hans Voralberg partly with Oscar. Dana’s whole story couldn’t bother me so after 50% I experienced some concentration problems and couldn’t follow the story very clearly, because I didn’t enjoyed her backstory. To me, she’s too much in the spotlights. So I was thinking, why did they decide to build this full game all about her and her friend Leon. Besides that, at some point you figure out there is a war going on and that’s another subject that’s not appropriate to be in Syberia. I don’t care about war. Because Dana couldn’t bother me, the story lost lots of points and expectations for me.

After completing the story, I really hoped for a revisit to the lovely city Valadilene or Barrockstadt. I didn’t expected it, but that would win more love for this part instead of what they did about Dana Roze. To be honest, she wasn’t even necessary to be in the game. They could’ve done better in my opinion. Especially because this is their best selling franchise they made.

I still have to give my props to the authenticity of the art style. That’s still top notch and typical Syberia what you expect from Benoît Sokal (R.I.P.).
All the Automatons, tools, materials and items you have interaction with feels fun and professional. Graphical it looks OK to me, it’s not groundbreaking. The facial animations could have done better, but I’ve seen worser. They also did a great job on the subtitle languages. There are various options to choose to make it more understandable in many languages.

To end with, if you are looking for a laidback relaxing point & click story with an unique art style and without too much challenge, look it up this might be for you. Because I know all of the ins and outs of the earlier Syberia games, I’ve expected more of this one. The best advice is to play the first Syberia, you won’t regret it. It’s still the best!
