"A Very....Strange Visual Novel"

Doki Doki Literature Club is a pretty unique visual novel, at least for its time. I'll keep this review spoiler-free for first time players, so my summation of some things I found good and bad will be shorter than normal. While this game definitely provides a strange twist on the visual novel formula, it suffers greatly from pacing issues that hamper the experience.

The story is interesting, but is delivered in a really slow manner. It pays off in the end, but there is a lot of unnecessary dialogue during this time. I wish that some of this was cut out, as it really provides nothing at all to the experience, and could at least cut out 30-45 minutes from the game. However, the direction of the game is worth it in the end! Some stereotypes from general visual novels/anime are included, but they are fine at the end of the day!

Overall, this VN is worth giving a shot! It's obviously free, so trying it is easy, but if you aren't into VN's very much and have little patience for about an hour or two of buildup, you might end up hating this one. I still Recommend it at the end of the day, and look forward to the next title released by Dan Salvato! It would be cool if there were updates for this game to add bonus content, sort of like how The Stanley Parable handled post-release content, but the game is cool as is.

Final Verdict: 7/10 (Good)
