amazing value
X5-7 may seem pretty bad, but don't overlook X8.

It's like bleeding edge without as much gameplay diversity

This is dreadful. There's next to nothing here to actually do, the netcode was ROUGH when my friends and I tried to play together, and the core of the game is just not interesting or fun enough to keep coming back.

I'm gonna keep playing this one in order to see if there is anything to be gained but this game is extremely weak.

Going free on PS+ was probably the smartest move possible for this game. It's a little feature-light with a fairly grindy economy that wouldn't have sat well with me if it was a full price release. But as a freebie, it's a very fun time waster.

The idea is tonnes of fun, and the execution is pretty solid. It looks and sounds good as a native PS5 game; the characters aren't on the level of something like Overwatch, but they're nicely designed and there's a great flare to distinguish them (such as unique riffs on the main menu theme, depending on who you are highlighting).

The cars feel arcadey and satisfying, although destruction detail and the general physics of how the game feels could be a bit more weighty. It is, after all, a game about crashing into other players first and foremost. The modes are all solid but more of them, and more maps, would go a long way.

If it has decent post-release support, I will definitely jump back in.

Eh, it's pretty good as a PS+ game. Something you can play for a few days, maybe a week and then get bored of. Maybe with constant updates it'll stay alive, but right now the gameplay is kinda shallow. Those days you are playing it's really fun though, the fast-paced actions and destructive crashes feel satisfying.

There's a colourful cast of characters to choose from, most of which have a very palpable unique personality, right down to their running animations. Having their own specific hero vehicles with their own super abilities is exactly what a game like this needs to give it just that little bit more variety every match.

At first I thought the out-of-vehicle parts were really pointless and just kinda filler to try and be unique, but they do have a bit of a strategic element to them. Do you spend time collecting shards to get your hero vehicle faster at the expense of not gaining points right away? And you might find a point multiplier too.

It's a pretty weird decision to only have 2 solo modes and 2 team modes, when they could have doubled that by making the solo modes playable in team and vis-versa. I mean mayhem is basically the main mode of the game and was what all the advertising seemed to show off, but it's only playable as a free-for-all.

I can't believe that when this isn't a PS+ game they're trying to sell it as a full priced game lmao. That doesn't affect my rating because it's not the games fault, but just as a company decision, Jesus.
Edit: It seems this was misinformation I found online. It isn't a full priced game.

It also locks the story mode behind damn microtransactions. Apparently they plan to put the premium currency as a reward in the game, but as of right now that's not an option. And it's a shame because each character's story helps flesh them out, even if it is basically just two cutscenes sandwiched between 7 special event matches. Those event matches are pretty neat though, types of gameplay style you can't find elsewhere in the game, including a Crazy Taxi inspired mission.

I'm hoping the game gets new updates fast, otherwise I don't know if I'll even be booting it up again.

March 12th 2021 edit: Replayed the game again and got bored super fast. Lowered my rating from 2.5 to 2 because it honestly feels even more shallow than I remembered. And they've now added legendary skins which cost 1,000 premium currency. The only way to get that currency? Real money, or get 150 from weekly challenges. 7 weeks of challenges for a SINGLE legendary skin.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is a successful adaptation of its PC counterpart in my opinion. There have been many good attempts to making the game more accessible to the mobile audience and the controls work decently, at least on my device.
The best part of this game is the visuals. The character models exceed the ones on PC by a mile. Every single model that exists in both games looks way better in the mobile adaptation.
Another great part is the distinction between the games. After the recent item update in LoL, Wild Rift still has most of the old items without any mythic items at all. Also, some other differences ensure the accessibility of the game. One example is the 'Teleport' summoner spell, which is now bought in the shop along with a specific pair of boots.
The progression system is also not half bad. Champions can be unlocked rather quickly and the rest of the configurables like runes is only unlocked after leveling up a few times to not overwhelm newer players at the start.
The biggest downside is the draft mode, that is still missing in the mobile game. This feature is absolutely essential for League of Legends and it is an absolute shame, it has not been added to Wild Rift yet. There is nothing worse than entering a champion selection with two people picking AD carries and no support of jungler. The next twenty minutes will be spent by you playing a role you don't want to play and losing in the end because the bot lane stands 1/6 at the 15-minute mark.

Overall great adaption that did some things better than the original but is still lacking essential features.
