The peak of the Monster Hunter series so far. I know a lot of old heads don't love some of the changes made in World and Iceborne, but even as someone who started with MHF2, I can thankfully say I love almost every single choice in this game. The rich detail of the open maps is fantastic and the lack of loading screens adds so so much to the game. The monsters and the player are so much more fluid than in the old games, lending not only an additional layer of realism to the fights but also expanding the design space so that the player can get more powerful AND the monsters can get more punishing. This really is just so fun to play, it's gorgeous, there's so much to do and so many loving little details if you know where to look. There are only a few qualms - poor weapon design compared to old titles, a lack of monsters on release (understandable), and the mmo-like damage checks of the last two monsters. Thankfully these are very small complaints. If you would've told my tweenage self pumping hours and hours into MHFU on the PSP with his friends that THIS is where the Monster Hunter series would end up, he'd lose his shit. I can't wait to see where the series goes next.
