FF7R is many things. At the very least, I expected to be wowed by the massive soundtrack and seeing many of my favourite areas of the original game recreated in full 3D. But what I was most impressed by was the new approach to the Active Time Battle system. The way it was designed to have the player constantly switch between all of the party members and run around and use their attacks and spells was ingenious. Despite being an action game, it makes full use of its gameplay roots from FF7. Narratively, FF7R covers arguably the best part of the original game, but it also makes me excited for the future titles. It really makes me wonder how they will approach the rest of the story, while still doing the first act of the game complete justice.
