Shadowbringers is a positively wonderful experience. From start to finish, it does not miss a beat in any respect.

The story hits bleaker notes than the previous expansions, while still maintaining the sense of adventure and wonder that is synonymous with Final Fantasy. The Shadowbringers story arc concludes satisfactorily, while the FFXIV arc continues in surprising and exciting ways. The last few hours had me at the edge of my seat with the new developments and I've never been more intrigued to see what happens next.

The soundtrack is magnificent as ever, perfectly capturing the different tones in all of the new zones and story moments. From the somber hills of Amh Araeng to the mystical Rak'tika Greatwood to the climactic trials, this is the finest collection of music in the MMO yet. On the topic of the zones, this expansion also finally nails the final one whereas I felt they were a tad disapponting in Heavensward and Stormblood. Certainly the most awe-inspiring zone in the expansion at any rate.

Even in a vacuum seperate from the overall plot, Shadowbringers cements itself as an essential Final Fantasy experience. It is a proper adventure through a new world full of loveable characters, music, and powerful moments. I really hope lots of people get to experience it. It is worth it.
