Square Enix managed to make a nearly perfect game even better with Intergrade. I've already written a length review on the "original" FF7R so I wont speak about the non Yuffie segments, but man this was a treat to playthrough again. The storybeats sparkled with the same magic they did the first time, as they did in 1997, the characters felt just as authentic and deep as they did when I first played, and the game was just as much fun.

I played this on the PC as I don't yet own a PS5, and the port ran simply amazing for me. I had no issues with stuttering or performance, and the game looked fantastic on my computer.

The Yuffie DLC aka FF7: Intermission was phenomenal, a short five hour bite size experience where you play as the optional ninja from Wutai. Her gameplay was a fantastic breath of fresh air, as FF7R's combat team continues to make everyone play different from eachother. With Yuffie you have a brawler like Tifa, who has added options from far range and can weave combos with her combat partner Sonon. It felt almost more like playing Nero in DMC4/5 with his grapple combos, however with Yuffie it is her ninja star weapon and her ability to retrieve it and begin CQB after fighting from afar. The fluidity of this in and out style of battle was never too much or aggrivating like SOME of the mainline FF7R combat could be when you're stuck in combo-lock. The synergy you can have with Sonon is great as well, allowing the player to basically control both characters at once in full on attack mode. You also have the ability to coordinate abilities and use ATB at the same time, a great innovation from the mainline game.

Seriously, Intermission just improves on the FF7R formula in every way with map design, characters, movement, combat, and sound. The soundtrack of this game, particularly in the first chapter was incredible.

I look forward to meeting even more of the cast, and desperately await the arrival of FF7R Pt. 2.
