Xanther finished You Have to Win the Game
Fun platforming/gameplay design!!! Not much else though, not even any music which is unforgivable for a platformer

Xanther finished Outcore: Desktop Adventure
I'm quite surprised to see such a high rating for this one, considering it's "one of those games". Those quite often get a lot of hate. And I'm surprised that I have a much more mixed reaction to this game than most of the reviews I've read.
The game is sweetly amateurish in a lot of ways though the things it does with your computer are really fun and look pretty complicated to code and they are much more exciting than something like what KinitoPET does.
Some of the other stuff, especially the >>>IDLE GAME<<<, is a mess. I'm glad the game lets you skip it but on the other hand the immersion suffers because of that option imo. The idle game (which is not an idle game at all by the way) has no place in this story, it feels like the developer just wanted to make a little coding game and put it into this one for no reason. But the problem is that it sucks and is very annoying to play.
The rest of the game is very chaotic with no clear structure, at times it changes genres and moods in a matter of seconds, which can be good or bad. Same goes for the humor. The dialogue in general can be bland and very skippable, and of course there are a lot of jokes. I'm a sucker for UT-inspired talk-to-quirky-characters-who-make-random-jokes style, and it's hit or miss in this one. Some jokes made me doubt if I wanted to play this game further, some surprised me with how good they actually were, some were just okay. The Undertale references... are not good and very annoying?
The platforming parts are good (maybe a bit too celeste-y) but the star controls were terrible for me on keyboard-only settings. Maybe with a mouse it's much easier. Bosses are pretty interesting gameplay-wise as well.
Characters are mostly whatever but Laifu despite looking like a cliche is pretty memorable.
The story feels like it's there but kind of a mess, and AGAIN sometimes it's good (the whole school portion of the game is a fever dream in a good way), but sometimes it's just a waste of time, especially with that glitch-horror portion that feels like it's there just to check all the Undertale/BuddySim/DDLC/whatever-the-fuck-quirky-cute-but-wait-oh-no-there's-a-dark-twist-kind-of-game boxes and has nothing to do with anything else. And they tease it several times before it happens, but when it comes it serves no purpose and then it's just over. Why is it even there at all? Same goes for the Ofelia stuff.
Definitely a mixed bag for me, but I love how... naive in a good way I guess? it is, it's very honest about itself and I like that. A lot of great ideas here, but also a lot of not very good choices gameplay/story wise.
I might change my rating to a 7 later when I give this game time to settle in my mind. It's got a lot of charm despite its problems.
