Honestly it was more a lack of communication on both parties but yeah this seemed to be a big reason also
just not the exact same game interest
Although I disagree with this stance I feel you, had a similar story happen to me with another game, I was in a whatsapp group chat for our grade group and I got kicked for saying “I prefer DOTA 2 over mobile legends (a mobile league ripoff that’s somehow extremely popular here in Southeast Asia)” when I posted a photo of me on my gaming PC playing DOTA with my friend group and they proceeded to call me a loser and I said my opinion then they kicked me out. My uncle is addicted to that shit game too and he’s not communicating with us when he comes over to our house as a result and he’s become angry towards me calling me a r*tard when I say he has a problem, denying it despite playing 8 hours a day and him not socializing with us.
