The games story starts off alright, and gets incredibly good near the middle-end, before an absolute wet noodle of an ending, though all of the character endings are quite nice. Speaking of characters, they're all mostly better than the ones present in Three Houses, though as always some characters are much more well written than others. Ultimately where this game succeeds the most is gameplay - it's incredibly fun, probably one of the most fun Fire Emblems gameplay wise, and the map design is immeasurably better than the past few entries.
