Mild Spoilers Ahead -
The original Final Fantasy 7 is one of my favorite games of all time. I love the characters, the world, and the combat system with materia. Remake and Rebirth both expanded on an already great game by giving us an almost alternate retelling of the original game. This new story can sometimes be a little to much, but honestly seeing some of my favorite characters expanded upon in so many ways adds a lot to this game. I really enjoyed the open world and I think splitting the game into regions was a good choice. It helped me not feel to overwhelmed by objectives. For me the world intel didn't feel overbearing and was a welcome change of pace from the heavy action of the main story. Some of the side quests were pretty basic but they were elevated by having a party member and Cloud as the leads. It allowed for further development between the characters. A favorite of mine being the Absence of a Sign quest in the Cosmo Canyon Region. Even though the quest comes down to - find these locations, fight this enemy, and then take this picture as accurately as you can, it's the added dialogue between Aerith and Cloud that makes it feel worth while. You even get some additional dialogue between the two if you take pictures of Aerith during the quest. I love the combat in the remake/rebirth games and I feel like they are a great blend of turn based/ATB combat and action based combat. Being able to still use skills throughout the entire game without having to cycle them out is great. The minigames are fun especially Queen's blood. The main thing I would add to this game, is giving us at least two additional party load out slots to help with the party size in the game. That said it's not difficult to just go into the menu and switch out a character so not a big deal. Overall this game was amazing and will probably be in the Top 3 games of this year for me.
