With intentionally misguided marketing, Final Fantasy VII ''Remake'' is a triumph of hybrid combat systems, and a failure of thoughtful storytelling.
Replacing the themes of environmentalism, corporatism, and self-identity with a melodramatic brawl between ''destiny and those fated to it,'' makes of the original's narrative a juvenile clownfest that is as weightless as it is meaningless.
It's overly long, and it's overly dull— but the worst part is that it's barely a resemblance of the game we've come to love, for all it remakes is vapid content with neither tension nor awe.
