I really liked the first 2/3 of this, even with the ACTIVATING COMBAT MODE CONFLICT RESOLVED every 5 seconds. The gameplay is similar enough to FF7 Remake which I loved and It's fun in a janky way seeing modern 4k high quality character models animated to 2007 PSP standards. It lends the game a certain charm I liked. The prequel storyline was fun, but once everything goes down at Shinra Manor the pacing screeches to a halt. There's so much padding at the end that it sort of ruined the story for me. It's already a silly and overwritten plotline but then Zack just sort of putzes around for a while while Cloud is unconscious for full days? And how many times am do they expect us to listen to the villain recite the same lines of not-Shakespeare? It all just took some of the punch out of it for me.

I also don't really understand how I was supposed to complete all the missions. Maybe I'm just not very good at the game but some of the middle ones were giving me trouble right until the end of the game. Maybe New Game+?

It did make me a ton more excited for FF7 Rebirth though, so that's a plus.
