I'm a huge fan of metroidvania games. Hell, I still play Symphony of the Night once year just because I love that game so much. As such, I'm left trying to balance my hype for this title versus my own nostalgic bias. I played it on both XBOX One and Switch, so this rating doesn't take into account any performance issues associated with any platform. Quite simply, the game is good but it's not as good as Dawn of Sorrow or Symphony of the Night. That isn't necessarily bad, it's just impossible to ignore that for most that are going to check this title out. As an entry point into the metroidvania genre this certainly ranks up there. Skill wise it's not too punishing. The writing is pretty good. The overall presentation is great. For those that already fall into the enthusiast category it will likely feel a little lacking.
