I have to note that I played this on the Vita as well as the remake on the Nintendo Switch. For the most part, I'm going to comment on the Nintendo Switch remake as I feel like it's the better version of the game despite what some may think. The general idea of the game is to take a first-person dungeon crawler, similar to the old school D&D PC games, and provide a new twist with the Nightmare chase mechanic. The setting is kind of polarizing. It is gothic anime to the core, with a healthy sprinkling of fairy tale and horror. You'll either love it or hate it. I personally love it. The story is pretty interesting, even though the dialogue can be pretty bad at times. There's some visual novel elements to the game that are purely for those that want it as you can completely skip them without hurting the progression of the game, which is nice to be able to do if that isn't your thing. The combat is very satisfying. In fact, it probably has some of my favorite character customization and combat of any first-person dungeon crawler I've played. It's got enough elements to keep it fresh that I made it through the whole game to the true ending without ever feeling like things were stagnating. Overall, if you don't like first-person dungeon crawlers this game is certainly going to miss the mark for you. If you've never played one and are interested in doing so, this is a fantastic first one to play so long as the art style and presentation aren't a complete turn-off for you.
