this is a perfectly competent survival horror game that i somewhat gimped for myself through careless wiki browsing. spoiling the purpose of the markers made the story significantly less compelling for me, but i still think it's an interesting concept. hammond and daniels don't really get any characterization besides being the two people telling you what to do so it was hard to feel any kind of emotion when hammond dies. the game builds tension very well, but playing on Medium i felt that almost all tension was lost when combat actually started (this is why you always play survival horror games on the hardest difficulty, kids!). the game has several interesting weapons, but i found myself only really using the plasma cutter, pulse rifle and line gun. the flamethrower does too little damage to be usable against anything but swarms of the weakest enemies, and requires too much of an investment in power nodes to up its damage by a reasonable amount. overall, i think this game is worth your time, just don't spoil it for yourself because the mystery of what happened to the ishimura is the most compelling part of the game.
