I'm thinking of Stardew Valley, especially in 2016 release version more and more as the years go by. Even with the exposition the game does give you, there's little calm compared to when I first looked at an open field, with no mind for what was to come. As such, I planted my crops.

Fifteen parsnips quickly turned into a beautiful garden filled with crops, fences, decorations, and plans. I watered every plant myself, every morning, and I watched as I progressed and built somewhere I wanted to be, but didn't realize it.

Set to the backdrop of the smallest, woodsiest town one could possibly conceive, Stardew Valley, in my mind, is a monument to a generation that more than anything, simply wants a break. That's what the game was for me. Even as a pixelated version of myself toiled in the fields, I relaxed knowing I'd do it all again in fifteen minutes, and that for at least fifteen minutes, that's all I had to do.

Try this game out, take a break.
