it's very much like the 2018 game, they're really almost the same experience. it's not really an upgrade or downgrade to that game, it shares the same strengths and weaknesses. nice to see a new cast of characters that are mostly all executed well. miles is a great spider-man.

repetitive combat and enemy encounters in addition to dull side quests are the biggest flaws of this game, just as they are in the 2018 game. venom attacks are nice to play around with, but they don't do enough to meaningfully change the combat routine. same with the new enemy types.

i binged the 2018 game, its DLCs, and this game back to back and i honestly regret that. the repetitiveness of the games is already something that sets in while playing one game, much less playing both back to back. but i mean, i don't hate it. don't hate spider-man 2018 either. if you're a fan of spidey you should probably still play both games. just maybe space out your playtime so you don't feel the same fatigue i did.
