I enjoyed the hand-drawn artwork and general approach of The Mushroom Season, but there wasn't much else to it. The idea of wandering around a map collecting intriguing mushrooms and occasionally running into a bit of dialog from forest creatures comes through, though. There was a minimal puzzle to find one mushroom, but I would have liked a bit more to the interactions that were in the game and more interactions, period. Some more thought to sounds, like a field recording of walking on gravel or other sounds that suggest moving through the woods, would have been welcome. As it is, the chirping birds, together with the effortless movement, lack crunch.
