An incredible space shooter, that is even more impressive now as this PSX gem more people should remember. I've only played Vengeance back in the days, but now starting with this i think i'll try the whole series.
Firstly, maybe it's nostalgia, but i feel like the graphics actually aged very well here, akin to something like wipeout, where the lowpoly look becomes an artstyle of its own. The ships, the fleets, the explosions (especially the esplosion) ooze charm.
But what's most impressive to me still, is the story, or how it's told. Failures aren't an instant game over, but missions and whole chapters will splinter off into different scenarios and story paths, a structure that more games nowadays could try doing
I think the only thing i didn't like were the excess of escort missions, aggravated by the not so good AI. Still, you'll feel like a true space ace beating them basically al by yourself.
