There's something about FO4 that's just so compelling and I think I've narrowed it down to the worldbuilding and atmosphere. It certainly isn't the story, for Bethesda's idea of tough choices aligns most closely with "Do you want to commit genocide or not?"
But the world and the lore... I just can't stay mad at it. I will say that I probably wouldn't bother playing the game without heavily modding it, but because that is so central to these Bethesda games, I think that ought to be considered part of their charm and ability.
It isn't as complex or challenging (in any regard) as it could be, but it's one of my favorites and with the amount of DLC-sized fan content out and in the works, I'm sure I'll log several hundred more hours in the future.
