It may not have the fun RPG gameplay of its predecessors, but the platforming/RPG combo is super fun in its own right. 90% of my high rating for this though comes from its story. Probably the darkest and most heartfelt story I've ever seen from a Mario game, the characters are endearing and tragic, and the ending is very emotional. First game that made me cry.

In terms of gameplay, this one improves on many things from Sun and Moon, and adds a lot of cool features and new Ultra Beasts. However, the story is just a beat for beat retread of Sun/Moon except worse, downplaying and dumbing down certain character's roles. All in all, not much here that makes it worth playing over the originals.

"Sequel" to my favourite game ever and it lives up to it! The combat system is difficult to grasp, but once you do it's super fun and rewarding. Alrest is a gorgeous world and has many enjoyable characters. The story loses track of itself sometimes but overall it's fantastic and builds on the lore of Xenoblade nicely.

Best 3DS Pokemon games. Alola is a fantastic and beautiful region, the new Pokemon are fun and iconic, and the story rivals that of Black and White. Lillie is the best character.

Perfect sequel to some of the best Pokemon games ever. The additions to the Pokedex are fantastic and add so many more options. The new areas of the Unova region are really great and the story is an amazing continuation of Black/White. Add in some super fun extra features and you get the best Pokemon game.

Gen 3 is what I started with, so I may have some bias, but I found this game very fun. I love the Hoenn region and it looks gorgeous in updated graphics. The new character designs are fantastic and the small additions to the story are welcome. The many features that Emerald added to Ruby/Sapphire are missing here, which makes it hard to call these the definitive Hoenn games.

Never played a rhythm game before but I very much enjoyed this! The Switch does have some delayed responses, which made it difficult to tell whether a mistake was my fault or not. I didn't expect much from the story so what we got was fine, but if Kairi doesn't get a real turn in the spotlight soon I Will start a riot.

Really good cast of characters, with a pretty good storyline (better than Fates at least). Gameplay is a huge step up for the franchise and adds an insane amount of customization. Running around the monastery every month does get tedious at a point, but otherwise the month system is really nice. Golden Deer for life!

The gameplay is a good improvement over Awakening, but that's about the only good thing I have to say. The story is a mess and is way too much of a downer. I can only take "your father hates you so fucking much" so many times. A lot of the characters just don't appeal to me at all (except Silas, I love you sir).

Best prequel to anything ever made (do Not @ me). Cast of characters is stellar and Torna is such a beautiful world. The combat is a massive improvement that makes going back to the base game difficult. Also made me actually like Mythra better than Pyra as a character, so shoutouts to that.

Combined the best aspects of KH2 and Dream Drop Distance combat systems. The worlds are also so much bigger and have more life than in previous games. My one gripe is that a lot of the story by the end feels rushed, like it's trying to tie up too many loose ends at once. But otherwise its a decent end to the current arc and a good setup for the next one.

In terms of Pokemon games, I wouldn't put this one at the top of the list, but it has everything that makes a Pokemon game fun: great new Pokemon, cool battle mechanics, and a pretty good region. The region may be a bit sparse at times, with locations that aren't exactly memorable. The DLC improves a lot by adding some older Pokemon that were missing and adding two new areas that are fresh and fun to explore.

2020

I'm not usually one for horror games, but I really enjoyed this game. The RPG mechanics are really fun and unique, and the characters are very endearing. A psychological horror with a really emotional and hard hitting story.

Fantastic port/remake of an already fantastic game. The best JRPG I've ever played. Engaging and complex combat, open and fun to explore world, and a downright stellar story and cast of characters. Plus the added content in this version and QOL changes make it a must play over the original. I cannot stress enough how much I love this game.
