One of those games that got shit on at the time that I thought was perfectly fine. Haven't actually played it since 2000 to tell if that's true or just my naive peepers thinking everything released early on for the PS2 was heaven incarnate.
It really depends on who you ask. Some think the game is absolute, clunky, unpolished dogshit, while others think its a very roughed up gem straight from the slums of Dog Street.
Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle. I like it for everything it does, good or bad, and I think it's a fun experience for me, but I wouldn't say it's exactly a surprisingly good game that's just misunderstood. It has some heavy issues that can most definitely mar an experience if the player isn't careful. If you can find a super cheap copy, give it a whirl for a little bit, but no one would rag on you if you decide to ultimately skip it.
