dropping $70 on this having never played a CRPG and not liking turn-based combat was risky as hell, but it all paid off the moment i realized everything i had done in the wilderness was BARELY act one. i had spent my first 90 hours foolishly thinking i was so close to finishing the game and it was really only the tip of the huge fucking iceberg lmfao. i'll admit i almost rage quit after my 4th time dying at the chapel entrance, but by some saving grace something clicked and everything gameplay wise began making sense.

people joke that this is a dating sim with combat in it, but it's literally insane how larian managed to put extreme effort into the gameplay, story, and romance (shoutout to my wife shadowheart 🫂) without making one aspect feel like it fell short. not to mention the bg3 fandom online is the best to come out of gaming in a hot minute!! this is a no brainer when it comes to my favorite games now.
