There are two modes: Story Mode and Open Mode.
Story Mode:
Story Mode is complete, with a story line and 4 set LIs. There is also a time constraint.
Open Mode:
Open Mode is open playing, with unlock-able characters that appear in Story Mode. You can date those unlock-able characters in Open Mode, but NOT in Story Mode.
Open Mode also has it's own storyline, but there are no time constraints and you can play the band simulator endlessly.
