I believe that people first getting into video games should either try out Far Cry 3 (for the formula at its most refined) or Far Cry 5 (for its great story and incredible main villain. I think they're great starter games that aren't too complex and are easy to pickup. The more Far Cry I play, the more my view lessers on the series overall. Like eating Little Caesar's pizza for the first pizza you've ever tried, only for the memory to lessen as you taste all other pizzas that are better. Far Cry games keep getting stale for me, especially with games like Tears of the Kingdom and Elden Ring showing the true potential of the open world genre. I was initially intrigued by the concept of a gunless Far Cry with a focus on melee combat, but that was unfortunately not what this game is interested in. Most weaponry is still ranged, now just being thrown, and each toss seems to have the impact of a wet Nerf axe. Enemies come in the same Far Cry variety of melee guy, ranged guy, ranged guy with explosive, and slightly further ranged guy. I at first thought that the beast taming would be a neat aspect of the game but then came to realize it varies to no other mechanic in the series from Far Cry 3 moving forward. The mammoth riding also lacked spunk, as tossing a jeep full of people over using an elephant carries much more weight. The story was incredibly basic with no memorable characters, but thats to be expected with the vast majority of Far Cry games. I also encountered 6 separate game crashes towards the third act of the game. In conclusion, I’ve played worse, but not much worse than this bland, formulaic, and overall forgettable experience.
