Overall, a weaker campaign that's set in an interesting period. The map is still the same, and even though factions are different from the main campaign, now there is no real difference between each faction other than minor stat changes. Everyone has the same culture, same unit and same buildings. Also, compared to the main game almost every unit is nerfed, so all battles are pretty lackluster relatively.

What makes this campaign slightly unique is the alignment system. It's like religion is the first game but instead of the Christians standing out from a country dominated by Buddhism, now there are three alignments that relates two the great clans--Taira, Minamoto and Fujiwara. An enemy province that was recently captured may have high Minamoto support, and you as a Minamoto clan can use that to your advantage by literally bribing the entire province to defect to you. Or, if you recently captured an enemy province, you might want your agent there to make sure they support you as soon as possible. It's a neat mechanic especially for someone like me who didn't really care about religion in the main campaign. Or you can just leave your agent in the province of a minor clan that you don't wish to attack but would very much to stay friends with, to gain diplomatic bonus.

All of that gets thrown out the window once Realm Divide hits, however, since it's still catastrophically bullshit as ever.
