when people talk about this game, i feel like they are talking about the first few missions and vergil fights, which are showstoppers. the game opens and finishes so magnificently it's easy to forget how everything in the middle is a slog. the stupid ass chess pieces, dumbass bird enemies, and god forsaken jumping puzzles make plaything through this game a death march to the Good Parts.

how do you feel about the enemies and the way the combat itself works? i've always felt dmc1 (what i played of it anyway) had a really strong weight to it - especially in the guns - that's missing in 3. here the combat just strikes me as fighting in a glorified training mode where you just chain random attacks into other random attacks for little reason other than the fact that you can. i know people talk the higher difficulties up, but it ends up being one of those things where uh, "i can't even bring myself to finish the whale section due to boredom... why the hell would i play that far anyway?"

@chandler: i find the combat mechanics pretty solid but the enemy encounters really bad. a lot of the enemies are just not fun to fight. the repears at the beginning of the game are perfect for the mechanics but then you get annoying shit like the chess pieces or angels who are just time sinks to fight. a lot of the game is wasting time doing boring shit and very little of it is having fun with the combat. It still feels a little floaty and weightless compared to DMC1 or Ninja Gaiden, but in a vacuum I think it's merely okay.
