I always thought the narrative of Silent Hill 2 would speak to me whenever I got around to playing it. In the end, it was the atmosphere of dread, the clanking of metal, and the fantastic use of light that made me love it.

The Historical Society/Labyrinth level is something I will not forget anytime soon. James descends further and further into the Earth, almost ridiculously far, his surroundings becoming less and less real until the tension climaxes, he sees the light of day, and the player realizes that they have only traveled to the backside of the Historical Society.
