one of the most depressing things i've ever seen. in videogames it takes less than a decade for an "auteur" to turn his fairly unique creation into the equivalent of a marvel movie.

What does this review mean?

This review is trying to say that someone who's an influential artist (Hidetaka Miyazaki) turned his unique creation (Demon's Souls and Dark Souls) into something as horrible as a marvel movie (which are a big no-no, very bad now).
I strongly disagree with the review though, Dark Souls 1 had the worst second half in any Souls game, Demon's Souls is clunky nowadays and DS2 is DS2, the worst game in the whole series, it would've been forgotten if it were not for the previous two games.

I appreciate the explanation, but I get what he means in a hypothetical sense, I just have no idea what he means specifically.

Is he trying to say that DS3's self-reflexive nature is the video game equivalent of an MCU film's nostalgia bating?
