It changes too much from the original's artistic vision. It's the shining example of what's wrong with the current trends of remakes in gaming.

It looks pretty on a technical level (and has some nice QoL improvements over the original) but changes WAY too much of the art direction, music, sound design, and numerous other aspects that makes the overall experience feel somewhat patronizing to me personally. It doesn't really add enough original things to the game to make these artistic changes feel warranted, either. Going from the PS3 original to this feels like watching those videos of Mario running around in unreal engine lmao

That being said, the original framework and gameplay loop are still there. It's the same game mechanically, which is still enjoyable to this day. However, it's an enjoyment that feels conflicted. The cost of this game's existence basically means we'll probably never see a rerelease of the PS3 original.

It should have just been a remaster similar to Dark Souls 1, instead of fundamentally changing one of the most important games in the last few decades to sell a console.
