This was probably my most anticipated game of the year entering 2022. I’m not the biggest Kirby fan in the world (I’ve probably played a little over half of the entire Kirby library though) But I look forward whenever a mainline game comes out. I remember when Star Allies came out, I was pretty excited and telling a lot of my friends who never tried a Kirby game before, that they should get it because Kirby games are always fun to chill out to. Then it came out and I kind of felt embarrassed for telling people to get it, it was a pretty big let down for a Kirby game. In comes this game, with a MUCH more interesting setting than just, Pop Star again. And of course, its 3D Kirby. This really only leaves Yoshi as the final major Nintendo series to never go 3D. I went to the Nintendo NY launch event for this, but moved shortly after so I have been chipping away at this slowly for a month and a half. Now having beat it, I REALLY like what they did. The style has its own very clear identity. Its almost like a fusion of 3D Worlds level structure and DK Tropical Freezes contextual platforming environments, with of course playing like a Kirby game first and foremost. They really nailed this one and I’m so glad Nintendo has another 3D platforming series to call their own. I also REALLY love the endings, (all of them) and the tone it goes for. Modern Kirby games are always pretty great at a very specific style of story telling, that relies pretty heavily on using your imagination to fill in the blanks, and this is definitely one of the best ones I’ve experienced so far. I went for 100% but ended at like 97% just because i didn’t feel like grinding for even more coins for the gatcha machine and I can beat every other thing in the game BUT CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME BEAT THE STUPID FAST FOOD SUBGAME LAST LEVEL. Otherwise though, I can tell going forward that this game is always going to be intrinsically linked in my memories as the game I played while moving into and getting settled in my first house, and I think that this is a pretty cool game to fill that role.
