Played on the Sonic Origins collection as apart of the Story Mode. (I did not complete it on Ouya, i have no idea why this site doesnt let you deselect a platform on mobile when writing a review) Sonic CD is always a game Ive heard people love or hate. I’ve heard alot of the reasons people dont like it being that the level design and enemy placement makes no sense and feels like it was done by a 1st grader in debug mode. That the time travel mechanic is cool, but in practice is really obnoxious and hard to pull off. That the level theming itself is kinda too abstract. After having played the game… yeah I agree. I’m not good at Sonic games to begin with, but so many of the levels I had no clue where i was going because there is so much going on with all the time travel locations. So I would just mindlessly hold right, trying to get to the goal as quick as possible before I got lost. Which kinda stinks because I love that this game has the time travel gimick, its so cool that each level has 3 different music tracks that play for the time state, but I didnt get to hear all of them because it can be so hard to actually time travel in alot of the levels. Speaking of music, I’m also upset at myself for not realizing you could change to the Japanese soundtrack until I got to Metallic Madness. The whole time I was plying the game, I was thinking to myself, “this soundtrack is really not doing anything for me right now”. I didnt remember that CD has 2 versions of the soundtrack until the very end, WHY IS THE AMERICAN OST DEFAULT ON ORIGINS (Japanese soundtrack is GOOD) Anyway, game is okay. A lot of cool ideas, but kinda messy on executing them all. Bonus game of catching the UFO is a lot of fun though!
