Firstly, if your looking to get this game and aren't already aware, either download it from cavestory.org (it will be the original version of the game, not plus though) or buy a second hand copy or something. Do not support the publisher NICALIS and there abusive workplace behavior and mistreatment of developers. They lied and cheated to steal this game from Pixel. And CEO Victor Rodriguez is a huge racist. I feel like most people on this site already know not to support them, but always worth saying again. I happily bought a physical, slightly used copy for switch on eBay for $45 when I could have bought on sale on the Eshop for significantly cheaper. That said, I’ve always really wanted to play Cave Story because of its status as “the original” indie game. It’s been ported around a whole lot since 2004, but I like the astetic it gives off as a freeware 2004 computer game. Its really impressive for being made by 1 person and given out for free also! I played with the original graphics and original soundtrack but its really cool that you can mix and match between all the styles and like 4 or 5 completely different soundtracks. The ending boss sequence had me on edge for a solid hour and a half, but overall just a really nice littler game. Definitely worthy of its spot in game history. [EDIT: So aparently there are alternative endings to the game, so maybe one day I’ll go back using the updated visuals and a different soundtrack and do another run of the game]
