The lego starwars: the Skywalker saga requiem

So i bought the game during its 60% discount which ended on march 8-9 (idk

I booted the game up and the intro screen was just, amazing. It blew me away, the past and present fights, the narration about the lightsaber, an iconic weapon of STAR-WARS. Memories flowing back to when i watched/played the older films in lego-form

And then… i started playing

What i loved about the game (thus far) :

The combat & third person shooting, while simple it felt Sort of fluent & fun, but at the same i couldnt stop noticing how slightly sluggish it felt, though i still belive its a great addition to see in a lego game

45 levels?!??? And here i thought the complete saga and lego batman 1 had the most levels!

Character abilties. Giving characters a whole bunch of abilities is my just so good. Reminds me of how lego dc supervillians gave every character more than 2-4 abilities, joker and batman for example have 9 abilties which is nuts.

The skill tree which allows you to run faster, build faster, deal more damage and perhaps have varying effects towards certain attacks last longer, a fine system to this game, and i hope it continues towards the next lego games

The Lightsaber duels, i find to be very intriguing and exciting.

The open world areas are just too good to say no to, they’re so open and big for you to explore. It definitely feels like the biggest lego game as of yet.

The humor and jokes is something that ive grown a very keen liking to. I absoloutely love it.

And now, what i dislike about the game

Some levels shouldve def lasted longer.

The vehicle levels, theres just too many of them, one vehicle dofight shouldve been enough per episode. And the overall feel to the vehicles feel sluggish at times, you’ll lose alot of momentum whem you spin left to right, and the controls feel off. and to be honest Lego star-wars: the force awakens just has overall better vehicle levels & mechanics. A game which released NEARLY 7 YEARS AGO LIKE BRUH.

The UI while great, is overall pretty confusing to navigate through.

No bonus levels, i sound like im asking for too much for a game that has 45 levels, but theyre all short so i was hoping for ATLEAST a 1-million stud level like the complete saga had.

The DLC’s are not worth it in the long run. Because NONE of the dlcs include a level or two, only new characters, most of which have reskinned walk/run cycles and attack animations, like lets be real here, who tf is going to buy the andor pack (/j) i only bought 3 character packs of my liking.

Mumble mode isnt worth using, without the subtitles on mumble mode. You wont even understand what the fuck is going on half the time, the older lego games perfect the mumbling by explaining each cutscene with with the visuals and bodylanguage. I dont mind if the game has voice acting or not, i just think some people just need to grow up and move on from the mumbling. Because like it or not the voice acting in lego games are here to stay, for how long we dont know.

No character creator, which makes the character dlc packs even less worth to buy. And dont tell me that i need to use mods for a character creator, thats like giving a fingerless man gloves. we’ve had this in LEGO games since 2005, and lego dc supervillians improved this formula greatly back in 2018, which makes absoloutely ZERO sense not to include it in this game.

Variants of certain characters lose key abilities that the oldeer variants had. Example 1 is rey losing her scavenger abilities once she wields the youngling slayer 9000 (anakin’s lightsaber) and example 2 is finn losing his first order panel access once he joins the resistance (something force awakens did better yet again)

Half The puzzles feel too easy, mostly mind-numbing. The puzzles that i am talking about is the panel-minigames. Theyre not fun at all.

* Certain boss fights are locked to a specific character, qui-gon against darth maul, luke against vader. I could go on.

While i go really heavily into the bad sides of this game, i still recommend it. Its still batshit fun for literally everything. Hell half of my "negative" points were kind of a straw-man nitpick. I wouldve paid full price for it if i had to. I love the game to death. But if it still recieved updates to this day i would love for a custom character creator at the very least, seeing that its almost been a year since its original release. That wont stop me from saying that this is THE definitive lego star-wars experience as equal of an experience that the complete saga has

I found out that the developers at TT games that worked on the skywalker saga took 5 years to make this game. Suffered through lots of crunch & development hell because the devs were limited with using outdated tools

My final verdict of this game: an 8/10. i wouldve given it a 7 but the game itself was already jampacked with fun, and its honestly unironically impressive how visually and mechanically stunning the game is, given the fact that the devs were using old & outdated tools for this. I cannot express how much i love the game. Definitely a cop, also on sales if you’re saving cash like me.
