This game is extremely impressive on so many levels. Metroidvanias are always fun, but this truly was something else. I was immediately immersed in the world of this game. Discovering each new area had me constantly updating my ideas of Hallownest's scale. There are secrets to be found everywhere, and so much attention to detail in the world-design. The art is gorgeous.

If I had to criticize anything, a lot of the endgame/postgame stuff wasn't all for me. None of it bothers me too much or brings down the rest of the game, but it had me hoping for something a little more (spoiler warning for specific details ahead).

While Hollow Knight excels greatly at being a Metroidvania, the smaller elements themselves don't hold themselves up nearly as well in my opinion. It's the synthesis of these elements: exploration, platforming, combat, bosses... that make this game enjoyable; it's greater than the sum of its parts.

This is why I found a lot of the late-game sections less enjoyable, as a lot of it was focused on these specific elements. An example I of this that I found relatively inoffensive was the White Palace being a final test of platforming. At its worst, though, I'd have to say is in Godhome. Fighting every boss in a row and having to start over if you die is just very tedious.
