I enjoyed Chrono Cross more than I enjoyed its spiritual predecessor (Trigger wasn't for me).
I was surprised with the very unique gameplay and its elements system that even though it took a minute for me to get the hang of, once I did, gameplay became pretty satisfying.
Chrono Crosses main shortcomings are its convoluted story, and having DOZENS too many playable characters, making Cross feel like a less personal experience.
With that said, I had a really good time on this adventure and Chrono Cross, while still being one of the few "older" JRPGS i've played, it's one of my favorite pre 2000s games.
