This game provides shortcomings on pretty much every aspect that I enjoyed about the first game.

First, while one can appreiate the retro game homages in the sidequests, they weren't really that fun especially compared to the hack n slash portions.

Second, the game didn't really give itself room to be as witty or as funny as the original.

Lastly and most significantly, GM did not push anything for the boss battle design at all. Each boss was pretty much the same in execution with occasional deviations, but otherwise, very little in terms of innovation and variety. Every single boss in the first game was both unique in style as well as the treck to the actual boss being different each time. That's missing here.

It's not bad, when there's action it's fun, it just doesn't justify as good of an experience as the original. We'll see if I play 3.
