a lot of people seem to have strong feelings about this game. it might just be that i don't get it, it might just be that I've thought far too much about my own depression for this to say anything new, but... to me this simply seems like a not very good game. it's an expression of the developer's own depression, but it doesn't have any strong, coherent message beyond that. it does a few clever things to mess with the player and a whole lot of cheap, not at all clever things. it's simply not a game worth playing.

I feel a little bad about my initial response to the game, given what I've learned about the developer, but at the same time, I know what my response was, and it was a pretty negative response. I don't think it tells its story well, and I don't think it tells a good story. It didn't even occur to me it was trying to talk about depression, and I'm saying that as a person living with depression. I obviously have nothing but empathy for the person themselves, but the game just did not work for me in the slightest.
