I think maybe I just don't get it? I have no problem with a game being difficult, but this one seems to be deliberately designed to be unfun. I sunk about an hour into this before giving up for the first time; at this point I was stuck between three or four rooms filled with enemies I have no idea how to deal with and no objective to be working towards and hence no motivation to proceed. I tried to get into it again, not wanting to have given up so easily, but several hours and a fair bit of progress later I still felt no desire to push through the pain. The world seems cool and the art style is pretty, the main reason I didn't want to abandon it so early, but even that seems to be working against the game here; everything seems cluttered and half the time I don't really know what I'm looking at. Maybe I'll try it again at some point and work out how to enjoy it, but this game isn't exactly inviting...

omg yeah i completely agree. I especially dont understand why people like this game because i read reviews that are like "this game does NOT care if you have fun! 10/10!" like, what? ive never played a video game before that made me feel like the dev personally hated me.

You don't get it
I had pretty much the same experience. I love difficult games but I just couldn't get into this one for whatever reason

not to sound too catty here, but outer wilds is your favorite game and you cant muster the will to treat exploring the world as its own reward?

@baldur the difference to me is that Rain World felt like it was actively discouraging me from engaging with it; the message I got from its time with it is 'the world is dangerous, stay safe or die'. Outer Wilds doesnt punish you for dying at all, but the levelling down thing in Rain World just makes me never want to explore outside of the small path between whatever shelter I'm at and the nearest source of food; the killing blow for me was discovering that level gates existed. I was enjoying the world a lot, and its the reason I kept putting the hours to try and like it, but to me the world no matter how beautiful just wasn't worth it.

Totally get what you're saying about the level gates but I've found it's very easy to stay in one place and farm around for a bit. There's no Cycle limit or anything so if you want to play slowly you can do that.
