Honestly, I didn't expect much out of this game, but when my friend gifted the game to me for my birthday, I was pleasantly surprised. It's an elegant blend of some really neat games: Bloodborne, Nier Automata, and Sekiro. The former two are some of my favorite games, while the latter has some really neat combat that I quite like. It all blends surprisingly well with the story themes of Pinocchio.

In a sense, Pinocchio can be considered one of the first stories about automata and their sense of free will. It's the quintessential story of an automata seeking to transform into a human. This melds exquisitely with the vibes that come with Nier Automata. Then the Souls-like gameplay just falls into place. As a side note, I've always wanted Nier Automata to have combat closer to that of a From Software game, so here comes Lies of P delivering a blend of it all on a silver platter.

The game also has a story that deals with the ideas I've mentioned in such a way that makes it surprisingly engaging. I scoffed at the idea of an edgy Pinocchio story, but it works so well here that I admit the error of my ways.

The combat is a great mix of Sekiro, Bloodborne, and even Dark Souls. I had a blast with the game, but I have to admit, the game is pretty easy all things considered. I didn't have any trouble with any of the bosses and even the final two bosses went down on my third try each. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed it greatly, but it was comparatively easy compared to my struggles in Bloodborne and Sekiro. It's fine though, I still had a great time and I'm sure the developers were trying to deviate from the typical difficulty of the From Software games.

At this point, I admit, it just works somehow. I look forward to the sequel and this is one of those games that has impressed me a lot. I was kinda put off the From Software games for a while, but this game really makes me want to finally beat Sekiro. Lies of P is really quite a spectacular game that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. It has a surprisingly incredible story, great gameplay, and music that really felt inspiring.
