Surprisingly tedious for being the shortest LEGO game, coming in at around 12 hours to 100%. The biggest issue here is that it’s just not very feasible for the movie to be turned into a game, as ironic as that sounds.

There’s 15 levels, that span across a movie with a runtime of an hour and 33 minutes, and people thought LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a bad idea… All of these levels feel either too short or too dragged out, which is always a huge red flag in a LEGO game. The good parts are the set pieces, with you having to slide down the Grand Canyon, jump between cars on a highway, or get to the other end of a train; these moments are good because they’re unique, and feel engaging to play, whereas everything else will have you going through a level solving the same three puzzles over and over again with little to no change in approach.

I don’t know how they thought they could make a game out of this, especially with the very limited roster of characters they could use. They’re all as basic as they can get with a lack of variation in abilities which makes free play a complete drag to do; and even free roaming isn’t fun because it’s not open world, instead you get to explore four small hubs which only contain red bricks, and the way you unlock them is by doing monotonous tasks which aren’t even clear half the time, since they all glitch out at least once. I’d also like to mention how bad it feels to play as Superman (or anyone, really) who was implemented much better in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

I appreciate the fact that many of the original cast came back to record voice lines for this game, but when compared to their movie performances, they feel so phoned in. This is especially apparent as they literally include scenes from the movie, and then have the characters speak right after, and they sound completely different. The cutscenes haven’t aged well either, they look like they were ripped from a 720p YouTube video, when in reality the movie looks gorgeous.

I do like the music and the art design, but not much else. It’s a shame considering the movie is one of my favourite things ever.
