Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the fucking worst.

I have it on PS4 and Mac, which doesn't work on either system. I may not have played this game for hours, but I sure have been troubleshooting excessive bullshit for hours. And mind you it was purchased twice, once for each platform. No game has ever given me such a massive headache as this has. 0/10 stars for how Square Enix so very unnecessarily complicates the most trivial, simple matters like logging in, account management, having a janky user experience, etc.

PlayStation Experience: Back in 2019, I got a copy on PS4. Made a Square Enix account and played briefly. Oh, FYI - suppose you ever wish to change Square Enix accounts on the PlayStation version. In that case, Square won't allow you to...because whatever account that was first used to sign in on PlayStation becomes a permanent Square ID that ties to PSN ID.

So to get around this, I figured, why couldn't I just change my username? You guessed it, of course Square doesn't allow username changes. I have changed my username on everything else without issues. My old square username connects to my real-life identity. Thus obviously I don't want that shit out there. So now I have an old Square account with an unusable PS4 FFXIV license. Did I mention how it won't allow me to log in anyway, even if I did want to use it? Despite changing my password by logging in on their website and being forced to set up Google Authenticator, my PlayStation will not allow me to log in to my old account from 2019. Yes, I downloaded the most recent software update so that isn't the issue. The same exact username/pass that works fine on their website no longer works on PS.

Mac Experience: Fast forward to 2022. Yesterday, I created a brand new Square Enix account. Then I created a Square Enix MEMBER account. I set up Google Authenticator on these. Then, I snagged the Mac license version of FFXIV. Being a $60 game, I expect the damn game to at least download and run. I didn't care about potential bugs or other issues. All I wanted was for the software to WORK, and it can't even do that. I downloaded the initial software for FFXIV. After going through the prompts of entering Square ID, password, and one-time password from Google Authenticator, the next page prompted me to enter the license registration code received in my email. This is where everything goes to shit. My 2021 iMac (M1, 16GB unified storage, 700GB available of 1TB SSD) CANNOT run the MAC version of this game. Even with all other applications closed except FFXIV, I get the error message "Force Quit - Your system has run out of application memory," while an .exec file and terminal subsequently pop up.

How can Square think to market a software FOR MAC, and then it can't even download or run at all on Mac?? Make it make sense???? After hours of troubleshooting and searching on Reddit, other Mac users have suggested adding/changing the code via terminal, and other techy-y workarounds that I will NOT go through the trouble of doing. Not risking destroying my iMac for a shit $60 game that frankly shouldn't be having these issues in the first place. 0/10 for Square Enix selling a scam "Mac" version. If games like Divinity or Stellaris work seamlessly on Mac, there's no excuse for this piece of crap. 0/10 for the amount of trouble and headache from this game. Wack, wack, wack. Do NOT recommend!!!!!
