i think i've never been so on the fence about a fire emblem game. on one hand, it's perfectly serviceable; the mechanics are good, the graphics are a definitive step up from three houses, and most maps are alright. on the other hand, neither the story nor the characters did anything for me. it's very cartoony and definitely has some fun moments, but that's about it. i'm also relatively disappointed in the music; i'm used to better from fire emblem.

but, all in all, engage is just a distressingly okay game. it's not good, it's not awful, and it took me forever to slog through. but at least there's dragon.
