Very cute, silly writing that will have you wearing out your screenshot button, and some pretty good feeling platforming. It's interesting the way this sequel solves the need to backtrack by letting you traverse the same environments repeatedly with slight variations. Unfortunately though I think that choice waters down the experience too much and flattens the need to use all 4 characters interchangeably. Truly I think the art style makes this game worthwhile. I wish more games looked like this!
This is nitpicky but I wish the cut scene music didn't exist, that is probably my biggest criticism.

Too much game!! There was absolutely nothing left on the cutting room floor and I think the entire game suffers for it. I would've adored a more arcadey version of this game with timed dives followed by the evening restaurant shift. Instead I spent sometimes hours at a time on dives completing content that did not feel very rewarding and often made me forget about the sushi restaurant entirely. Even then, the amount of work I put in to try and maximize restaurant profits never seemed worth it past a certain threshold of diving upgrades. At a certain point this game becomes Stardew Valley plus a diving game plus a restaurant sim except it doesn't give much motivation to optimizing that experience. It simply feels like I'm playing several different games.
Super Mario RPG speedrunner & historian pidgezero_one said on a GDQ Hotfix stream once that playing the original SMRPG is like having your favorite meal at your favorite restaurant. The SMRPG remake is like eating at your favorite restaurant and then the waiter comes to your table and says, "here, have some free dessert" and I cannot agree more. It is the same game with all of our favorite stuff, just grown up.
