DOOM (1993) and its expansion later released after DOOM II, They Flesh Consumed, is one of the most badass games I've ever played. I ran it on the GZDoom source port and never had any issues with it. Some of the levels in Thy Flesh Consumed are kinda bullshit, like E4M2 (Perfect Hatred) and E4M6 (And Hell Followed), but the challenge is welcome. This game is a titan, no a CYBERDEMON in the face of all others, and finishing it has left me wanting more, more monster killing, more secret hunting, MORE DOOM. It was about halfway through episode 2 that I realized I love this game, and I love DOOM's entourage of hellish creatures.

I went into this game having watched Civvie11's reviews of things like Plutonia and having played games such as Dusk and Quake, so I wasn't completely lost, but first time players may struggle with DOOM's combat. I played the whole thing my first time through on Ultra Violent difficulty, which is the second hardest, and I had a blast. Hurt Me Plenty difficulty feels a little empty, the monsters are way less plentiful, but if you're looking for a super casual classic shooter then the lower difficulties might be your thing.

Despite its age, DOOM blew me out of the water and I'm excited to play more games in the series!
