It's a Megadrive classic but with the most important feature of Nintendo's handheld that was forgotten towards the end of its cycle.
I'm ashamed to say that I haven't beaten in fully 3D, but I am tempted to do it since this is Sonic 2, one of (if not) the best game on Megadrive/Genesis.

Special stages suck, but the main game is overall cooler than that of the first Sonic game. Super Sonic mode should not have been automatic though. of course nothing forces you to get all the emeralds but still, I didn't want to waste 8 lives in Wing Fortress just because of it activating after getting 50 rings, making me fly off the stage because of the insane speed, which comes with uncontrollable and imprecise movements.
More polished and fun than its predecessor. The atmosphere and sense of speed make this game a must-play if you're interested in Sonic, even if it's let down by a few achingly slow levels at the end.

I don’t always play Sonic 2, but when I do, I prefer 3D Classics.
Frustrating controls and baffling level design that intentionally kills momentum, which is frustrating given Sonic's slow acceleration. Beautiful game though, especially in 3D.
