(Re-Boot Camp)

Charming in its simplicity, but not especially deep. Very little reason to return to it rather than seek out fan-made renditions with online matchmaking, since for some reason they decided not to include it here.

Advance Wars was the first tactics series I ever played, I loved it back then and turns out I still do now. I like all the different units with their pros and cons, as well as the different operators with their unique abilities. The story is simple but the characters are pretty neat at least, you are really here for the tactical combat anyways.

The game is just as fun as ever and the game looks mostly good… the map and COs look good, but man they really ruined the combat animations in my opinion. They lack a lot of the charm of the GBA release which is sad, I honestly just turned them off cause I couldn’t take looking at them….

This isn't your average war. War brings pain and suffering. Oh, shit, it's your average war. Unless... oh, I see, it's a fun hobby for them. Mine is tearing games to shreds while I commute by train, so let's begin this charade. Get ready, because here's the list of manslaughtering machinery you need to know to get you rollin'!

1: Soldiers! They wanted a stable income, but not in this economy! They're the ones bringing in the dough, actually.

2: Tanks! They're the powerhouse of no cells. Free reign to explore the wastelands they're creating. I'm surprised we can still recognise which team they on after the blood of their enemies color them red.

3: Transport! They make sure you get to your 9-5 in time, atleast in your daily life. Turns out, these cutting edge engines allow them to bring weapons of havoc wherever we please.

4: Rockets! What's worse than bread falling on the buttered side? The smell of death, lurking and looming over our heads, ready to happen at anytime once the order has been issued. Title unrelated, cold showers make my skin crawl.

5: The rest! Look there are planes and ships and shit they're niche obsessions for mega nerds let's move on

I like the characters, but on a basis of good animations, meanwhile their plasticky designs and "I've been paid enough for the job" type of voice acting make them feel a bit hollow. Does it live up to the pixel? Begrudgingly seems to.

Overall, a good strategy game. I enjoyed it a lot. Some of the missions were frustrating, but overall I had a good time.

my biggest complaint is that a lot of maps are decided on turn 3-5 and then it takes another 5 or so turns just to finish the job. the ranking system disincentivizes this I guess, but even then a lot of my S rank clears had this problem, and a bad grade isn't enough for me to reset a map I've been playing for twenty minutes.

its also really funny that this game has a story but like only barely. it never feels like the characters actually exist in a location at any point

I have never been the biggest fan of turn based strategy games, but given how both the original and remake of this seem to get a lot of love, I thought I'd also give it a go. After the first few missions I was hooked. The last few were a real test.

I did think about giving up, but it's one of those games where, if you aren't playing it, you're thinking about it, so I couldn't quit on it, I just had to... soldier on.

I'm glad I did. Despite it taking my at least three attempts, and probably a few hours in total, beating the last mission was sweet. I'm converted. I'm looking forward to playing the sequel, but I'm gonna give it a week or so. I don't want to wear out it's welcome. And I'm looking forward to playing Triangle Strategy after that. Good stuff.
